Designers now create 'products' instead of 'mockups'.

🫑 3-Line Summary

•
In the design industry in 2026, the handoff process of developers rewriting drafts drawn by designers into code is gradually disappearing due to tools such as Figma Make, v0, and Claude Design.
•
These tools help manage design and code as a single entity by generating code based solely on text input or automatically extracting design systems, but they also have limitations in that they lose the brand context.
•
As artificial intelligence takes over the process of rapidly and mechanically churning out results, a designer's true capability is evolving from pixel labor to the judgment to decide what to create and breathe soul into it.

🥦 Insight

•
The difference between the fantasy and reality of an app being completed before lunch
Contrary to the exaggerated claims that AI can create an app with a "click," sloppiness—such as subtly misaligned margins or jarring colors—commonly occurs in the field. Planners and working-level staff should not rely solely on the convenience of the tool; instead, they must first design solid constraints and standards to ensure that the machine operates only within the brand system.
•
The Human-AI Sandwich Strategy
For smaller teams, it may be more advantageous to utilize a sandwich workflow rather than delegating 100% to AI tools. A division of labor structure, where humans first define core actions and brand context and then refine detailed interactions on a framework generated by machines, can dramatically increase work density.
•
The End of Pixel Labor: Only Those Who Define the Essence Will Survive
In an era where AI automatically writes code and composes screens, aligning spacing by a single pixel is no longer a competitive edge for designers. The discernment to persistently ask what the real problem our team is solving, and to judge and review whether machine-generated mockups provide the optimal user experience, is the weapon that will determine the next decade.

🥄 A spoonful of execution

•
If you need to conceptualize a new proposal or screen design today, instead of starting from a blank slate by drawing lines, try asking the AI to create a 'draft framework' first. You will experience the "sandwich method" firsthand, layering your own intentions and brand sensibility onto a structure instantly generated by the machine!

For a long time, there was one insurmountable wall in a designer's work.
No matter how wonderful the screen you drew, it was ultimately just a 'picture'.
Even if you created a perfect mockup in Figma, for it to actually work, the developer had to look at that drawing and rebuild it from scratch in code.
This process is called a 'handoff.' It involves the designer handing over the drawings, and the developer receiving them to rebuild.
One designer recalled this frustration, saying they were exhausted from constantly sending trivial UI tickets to developers and arguing over margins that were misaligned by a few pixels.
"Ultimately, the problem wasn't alignment. It was that there was no way to connect what I designed with what went into the actual product."
Living in two different worlds—design and code—something was always leaking out from between them.
