An operator of an AI character chat platform that launched its service in mid-2025 has secured Series A investment worth 15 billion won in just over a year.

Eight firms including Kolon Investment and Kakao Ventures participated... A follow-up to the 2 billion won round a month ago

Bunker Kids, the operator of the AI character chat service WIFF, announced on the 11th that it has secured 15 billion won in Series A funding. The investors participating in this round included Kolon Investment, Kakao Ventures, Mirae Asset Capital, WE Ventures, BSK Investment, Murex Investment, Krit Ventures, and Samchully Investment.
This round took place approximately one month after the previous investment announcement. Bunker Kids announced on the 15th of last month that it had received 2 billion won in investment from Crit Ventures. The cumulative investment disclosed by the company through job postings stood at around 3.2 billion won. This effectively means the company has jumped from the seed funding stage to the triple-digit range in a single leap.
The founding team's history is also unique. Bunker Kids is a team that has attempted seven items over the past six years, failing five times and selling them twice, and all core members are former founders. Founded in 2020, Bunker Kids sold the AI education service 'Data Diving' and the AI-based meal recommendation and delivery service 'My Shipdan' in succession, and then globally launched Weep in Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and other countries last July.

Payment Retention & Time Dwelled at 217 Minutes… "Latecomer Overwhelms Established Giant in Just 7 Months"

What the investors commonly mentioned was the metrics. Jang Dong-wook, Managing Director at Kakao Ventures, described Bunker Kids as a small, elite organization that produced metrics overwhelming existing powerhouses in just seven months, despite being a latecomer launching its service in mid-2025. He noted that the company demonstrated overwhelming capital efficiency from the start and secured a user base of female consumers with high purchasing power based on its excellent product implementation capabilities.
Actual operational performance has been disclosed previously. Wipp recorded an average daily time spent of 217 minutes based on paying users, a high figure among AI character chat apps. Based on user engagement and retention, payment volume grew by an average of 110% per month during the nine months since the service launch, and the company achieved a profit in operating income. 28% of total revenue is generated from overseas.
The product structure is distinct from simple chatbots. Wip is an AI interactive content platform where users converse with AI characters, form relationships, and create new narratives based on their choices. Unlike Q&A chats that provide fixed answers, the relationship with the character and the story expand organically as conversations accumulate. It is structured so that anyone can create and share their own AI characters. It also utilizes officially licensed IPs such as webtoons and web novels.

Global expansion and genre diversification are the next challenges… the influx of competition is also accelerating.

The secured funds will be used for overseas markets. Bunker Kids plans to accelerate its global expansion, focusing on Japan and the United States. The company intends to continuously expand its officially licensed IP while introducing AI interactive content across various genres, moving beyond content aimed at female audiences. Kim Bo-young, Managing Director at Kolon Investment, stated that Bunker Kids is a company that has proven its growth capabilities through a deep understanding of the market and rapid execution, and expressed anticipation for the narrative of global expansion that WIFF will write as a next-generation content platform.
However, the market itself is an area where new entrants are rapidly increasing. The company also defines it as an emerging market flooded with numerous competitors. Investment news for AI-based content startups is also coming in succession; for example, game startup Deep Grove secured 1.5 billion won in seed funding from Kakao Ventures and Bon Angels last June. The valuation applied to this investment and specific revenue figures were not disclosed.
A team that achieved profitability within seven months of launch with accumulated funds of approximately 3.2 billion won secured 2 billion and 15 billion won in quick succession within a single month. The basis for this was the metrics established by the founding team, which had gone through five failures and two sales attempts. This case demonstrates that in the AI content sector, product completeness and unit economies, rather than capital size, are becoming the criteria for investment decisions; the key now lies in whether the initial user base, which is centered on female audiences, can be expanded to genres different from those in Japan and the United States.
